What does real progress look like in an age of accelerating technology? Is it faster systems, smarter AI, and greater efficiency—or is it something deeper?

In this recent HumanTech session, we gathered to explore a different perspective: one where technology and mindfulness are not opposing forces, but partners in supporting human flourishing. Inspired by Bhutan’s philosophy of Gross National Happiness and its growing focus on regenerative innovation, the conversation invited us to rethink what it truly means to move forward.

Christopher Pitcher, Founder and Systems Designer, brought insights from his work advising Bhutan’s sovereign wealth initiatives and producing the Bhutan Innovation Forum. He shared reflections on regenerative ventures, ethical system design, and the importance of building cultural and digital infrastructure that strengthens communities rather than extracting from them.

Joining him was Bijay Niraula, Founder of ibriz.ai, who spoke about Bhutan’s evolving innovation landscape and the vision of a Mindfulness City. The discussion touched on themes like regenerative hospitality, personal data sovereignty, and how we can design transformational experiences that prioritize wellbeing over growth for growth’s sake.

The evening began with a meet and greet, followed by a blessing ceremony led by Lama Jampa from BodhiPath, grounding the event in intention and tradition. From there, the presentations opened into thoughtful dialogue about how ancient wisdom traditions can inform the next generation of technology and leadership.

Designed for builders, technologists, creators, and conscious leaders, the session offered more than ideas. It created space to pause and ask a deeper question: How can we build systems that help humans thrive?

The evening concluded with a shared Nepali dinner, continuing the conversations in a more informal setting and reminding us that meaningful innovation is ultimately about connection.
